Old Growth Counsellor: Michael Pandher

Michael (known to many as Mike) is a Registered Clinical Counsellor in North Vancouver, BC, with over a decade of experience supporting youth, adolescents, and teens. He holds B.A. and B.Ed. degrees from Simon Fraser University and an M.Ed. in Counselling from City University of Seattle. His training includes client-centered, trauma-informed approaches, with emphasis on CBT, DBT, mindfulness-based therapy, and solution-focused therapy.

Inspiration: The Old-Growth Forest Analogy

The concept of Old Growth Counselling is inspired by the resilience and stability found in ancient forests. Old-growth ecosystems demonstrate deep roots, interconnectedness, and the capacity to adapt over time. These qualities guide our work, reflecting how individuals can develop strong foundations, meaningful relationships, and sustained personal growth. This perspective supports a grounded, nature-informed approach to human wellbeing.

This approach also aligns with Carl Jung’s view of the psyche, we recognize that growth involves integrating both conscious experience and the deeper, less visible layers of the personality. Jung’s emphasis on understanding these underlying structures - such as shadow material and inherited patterns - parallels the hidden root systems that support old-growth forests. This framework informs the therapeutic process, helping clients build resilience through greater self-awareness and psychological integration.
